Welcome to the Staff Development Center of the University of Sri Jayewardenepura..

Since its establishment in 2003, the Staff Development Center has played an important role in strengthening the professional capacity of university employees. As a university committed to the vision of “prosper lives through education,” we believe that staff development is central to empowering individuals, fostering sustainable development, and contributing to meaningful social progress. In this context, the SDC serves as a dedicated institutional mechanism for continuous training, professional development, and quality enhancement.

The main responsibility of the SDC is to support the capacity building of the university’s human resources, including academic staff, administrative officers, and non-academic staff. For academic staff, our training initiatives focus on teaching, learning, assessment, research, academic leadership, and the effective use of educational technology. For administrative and non-academic staff, the SDC aims to enhance professional skills, service quality, workplace efficiency, leadership, communication, and adaptability in a changing higher education environment.

Among our key programmes, the Certificate in Teaching in Higher Education (CTHE) holds a special place as a core programme designed to support academics in developing sound pedagogical practices. In addition, the SDC conducts annual training programmes and workshops for academic staff, as well as need-based and ad hoc workshops to address emerging institutional requirements. These initiatives are carefully designed to ensure that our employees remain up-to-date with the latest developments, including modern technologies, digital tools, and innovative practices relevant to higher education and university administration.

As the Director of the Staff Development Center, my vision is to further strengthen the SDC as a dynamic, responsive, and future-oriented center for professional and personal development. We are committed to creating learning opportunities that inspire excellence, encourage innovation, and support the continuous growth of all categories of university staff.
